School Bullying and Suicide

Belinda Allen

In Aurora's 2006 IDAHO ceremony we referred to Darren Steele who committed suicide as a result of long-term bullying for being gay, or thought to be gay.

This is another story from the Pink Paper, 17th April 2008.

Bullied teen did commit suicide

An inquest into the death of a fourteen-year-old girl who allegedly killed herself to escape homophobic bullying, has recorded a verdict of suicide.

As reported in the Pink Paper earlier this year, Belinda Allen hanged herself from a tree near her West Sussex home in January.

The coroner's court was told that Allen had a 'troubled mind' and had self-harmed for several years. The inquest also heard that she had attempted suicide before, taking an overdose.
